The Norland Estate has in recent years been used as an event centre and a venue for weddings, galas, and private functions. However, some key activities where limited to the summer only, as the main function space was a large seasonal tent that accommodated approximately 300 people. In order to operate throughout the year a permanent function room was needed.
This new ballroom addition to the main house accommodates 300 seated guests and allows for contiguous support facilities to serve the ballroom such as washrooms, decant area for food, bedrooms, and meeting rooms.
Due to the unique character of the house and the need to accommodate a large number of guests, the main challenge was to provide a design that fit within the landscape and did not overpower the main building. We undertook many design options to arrive at a solution that provided an appropriate scale and proportion that complemented and incorporated details used on the main building.
We also provided marketing materials for the new facility so that pre-booking could start before construction of the new addition.
